“Shopping provides the same joys in the city that hunting does in the country – in both cases the huntress is rewarded by bagging the object or animal of her dreams!”
- Genevieve Antoine Dariaux
As a woman of a certain age I am rather bemused by my innate capacity of gazing for hours upon hours at fashion and decorating magazines/e-sites. At one level I am keenly aware that it is utter poppycock (or so the love of my life – LOML – keeps telling me) – I have no interest in painting my face with buckets of unregulated carcinogenic and mutagenic toxic chemicals, or going into debt to buy seasonal “must haves” such as IT bags, eccentric furs, sparkly things, or high healed shoes designed by misogynistic sadists who derive great glee from women having chronic musculoskeletal injury. On the other hand my eyes and brain are imagery magpies – collectors and sorters of 100s of 1000s of images. It’s not something I choose to do, rather it is something my brain appears to be wired to do.
My gender seems to be largely wired to process trends and shop. A throwback to our roles as gatherers in a hunter-gatherer society. If once considers visual shopping as akin to scoping out the landscape for resources it makes a bit of sense.
Below is a list of women’s luxury on-line department stores (not single brand or single department limited).
Amuse toi bien!
